Politeknik Negeri Padang Accounting Department (PNP) was founded in 1997 and is the only vocational higher education institution in accounting in West Sumatra that provides vocational education at the Applied Masters (S2) level, Diploma IV (Accredited A) and Diploma III (Unggul)

The learning process in the Accounting Department fully refers to the philosophy of vocational teaching (Polytechnic) which places more emphasis on mastering student hard skills and soft skills with a composition of practical lecture hours (60%) and theory lecture hours (40%).

The implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and the preparation of the curriculum are adjusted to the KKNI (Indonesian National Qualifications Framework) so that the curriculum is designed taking into account the needs of graduate users.

Collaboration with industry is realized in the form of MoUs with graduate user industries such as Public Accounting Firms (KAP), BUMN, BUMD, and government and private agencies.
